How can you be dry and oily at the same time?
Sorry for the brain fart today!
As you can see there are many factors that can cause your skin to feel both oily and dry at the same time.
It’s pretty common actually.
It really boils down to the fact that most people use products that just don’t work for their skin.
When you have oily skin or acne, all you want to do is get rid of that oil, right?
Unfortunately, you are just causing your oil glands to produce MORE oil!
It’s a vicious cycle.
BUT you can change all of that!
It will take time for your skin to adjust to new products.
All you need to do is listen to your skin and understand what it’s telling you.
What the hell am I talking about?
Here’s an easy one…
After you wash your face, does your skin feel clean or does it feel “squeaky-clean”?
If it feels “squeaky-clean” your skin is telling you that your cleaner is too strong & is stripping away your oil.
This signals the oil glands to start producing oil to keep the skin’s barrier lubricated and intact.
But didn’t you just strip the oil away?
Yep, see where I’m going with this now…?
This cycle causes the skin to become dry, but the oil glands are now over-productive.
This term is called “dehydrated skin” because you are CAUSING your skin to become dry by using products that don’t work for your skin type.
Tomorrow I will be doing a video on the difference between dry vs. dehydrated skin, so make sure to look for that!
How can I fix my skin once it’s stripped?
#1 Start by changing your cleanser!
If yours has glycolic, scrubs or anything that could be exfoliating your skin both AM & PM, you need to stop using that.
Use a foaming cleanser that is designed for normal skin types.
OR
If you’re truly dry, switch to a creamy cleanser in the winter months.
#2 Stop using scrubs or clarisonic brushes!
Scrubs feel great, but they cause micro-tears in the skin – look for yesterday’s video for more information!
#3 Use facial oils!
Facial oils though they may sound counter productive, especially if your oily.
Facial oils NORMALIZE oil production and help your skin stay hydrated longer.
You can even apply a facial oil when you know you’re going to be spending extra time outdoors in the cold, windy, winter months.
