As I’m diving into writing book #2, I wanted to ask around to find out what content YOU are looking for in a skin book. The one question that keeps popping up is how to take care of your skin each decade of life.
I’m going to dedicate a portion of my book to this topic, but I also want to create some content for it now while you’re eagerly awaiting book #2!
Each week, I’m going to be writing about a different decade, today is going to focus on a brief overview of the skin and some changes you may notice as you enter into the next decade.
No matter what decade of life you’re in, know that hormones, lifestyle and how you care for your skin every single day impact your skin’s appearance the most. These factors we can control and can help slow down the aging process and help your skin stay clear, healthy and beautiful each stage of life.
Where does skin care begin?

Skin care begins as early as pre-teenage years. Many kids around the age of 10 begin to show signs of oil production, blackheads and pimples. Once you see this, it’s time to start your pre-teen on a good routine.
I’m not going to lie, it will be challenging, as most kids this age are lazy or tend to forget. It’s not until they are a few years older, suffering from blackheads and/or acne that they finally want to do something about it.
I have a 12-year old son and he is so inconsistent with his routine because he’s lazy. But once he sees a zit on his nose or forehead, then he washes his face, tones and moisturizes every night.
The benefit to starting your kids out at an early age, is that you are setting the stage and teaching them how to be consistent and establish a routine that will help them throughout the rest of their lives.
Buying acne products over-the-counter isn’t the best way to start, because many of these products are drying and can irritate young, delicate skin. Skin Deep’s online store has many options available. Working together, we can customize a simple routine for your kids that makes it easy!
Skincare in your 20’s and 30’s

This stage of life your oil production slows down and most tend to stop breaking out. However, many people in this age group still do suffer from acne and it’s mostly because of diet or lifestyle.
This is also the time when the aging process starts! Once we hit our 30’s we begin to lose 1% of collagen each year. Establishing a good skincare routine that includes anti-aging products is key in this stage of life.
Skincare in your 40’s and 50’s

This stage of life is affected by hormones, because many women in these decades are going through perimenopause and menopause. The fluctuations in their hormones dramatically affect their skin, how quickly it ages, acne and even those women who were oily in their younger years are now faced with dry skin.
Anti-aging is key in this stage of life, but also understanding that while it seems your skin condition came out of nowhere, it took many months to develop and will take some time to readjust. The good news is that with the right direction, you can help your skin look and feel good during this stage of life.
Skincare in your 60’s and above

Anti-aging is an absolute must once you hit your 60’s and above, because not only have you lost collagen, but your skin is extremely dry and our fat pads have reduced as well as bone loss occurring.
Treatments like microcurrent and homecare products like peptides help the skin look and feel more youthful. This time of your life, having a trusted esthetician is crucial, because the over-the-counter products that are available do very little to actually improve your skin’s hydration levels or even fight the affects of aging.
Stay tuned….
Each week I’ll be diving into another decade of life.
If you have specific questions or would like more information about the decade of life you’re in and how you can help your skin look and feel better, please comment below.
My goal with this blog is to help answer all your skin questions and give you the information you are seeking. There’s so much information out there, many of it is false or the opinion of someone not well-educated in skin I’ve been a licensed esthetician since 2003 and have continued to study and learn as much about the skin as I possibly can, because I love sharing information and helping people achieve the healthiest skin possible.
I’ve done it with my own skin and helped many clients in my treatment room. If I can help you achieve skin that you’ve always wanted, then we both win!
My goal is to change lives one face at a time!
