I always feel like when you make changes in your life, lessons pop up around you. You either can take notice or watch them pass you by.
Over the past 2 months I’ve been making changes to my diet because I was at a point where none of my clothes fit very well & I just didn’t feel good anymore.
I was suffering from dull, daily headaches and sugar cravings, not to mention I was drinking wine every single night with dinner & after the kids were all in bed.
I felt exhasuted, crabby and totally unmotivated. Plus my skin looked horrible and my melasma was getting worse even though I wasn’t even outside in the sun. Which is NOT ideal for an esthetician who’s job is to make clients look and feel beautiful!
Towards the end of May I started eliminating sugar & carbs from my diet and yes, even red wine which was hard at first, but I got used to it!
I began by adding healthy fats, such as avocados, coconut oil, and even heavy cream & MCT oil to my morning coffee (which sounds like a weird combo, but tastes amazing). Ever heard of bulletproof coffee? Yep, that’s what I’m drinking and it’s so yummy!
The result has been my melasma is lightening, I feel more energetic and don’t have any more sugar or carb cravings. PLUS, my clothes are no longer tight & uncomfortable, they fit great! I even put on a bikini at the pool last weekend (something I haven’t done in 3 years)!!!
Now about that lesson I mentioned above…
Diet and Acne
Up until a few months ago, the majority of my clients have been women and some men in their 30’s, 40’s & 50’s.
Lately, I have been getting a lot of teen and acne clients coming in to see me.
Acne clients are fun to work with because once you get to the root of their acne, their skin clears up and the feeling I get knowing my clients are happy & feeling more confident is amazing. I’m grateful for these challenges and know that this is part of my lesson.
Not just to clear up their skin, but to inspire these teenagers and young women to take control of their eating habits so they clear up their skin for good. The other part is they become healthier and they feel good too. It’s a win, win for everyone.
The number one thing I educate my acne clients on is that in order for their skin to clear up, they need to cut out all that processed foods, such as gluten, dairy and sugar.
These 3 foods are our body’s biggest enemies and can cause inflammation that results in bad skin.
The one thing that I’m learning now that I’m changing the way I eat and prepare food is some foods we think are healthy, can actually be harming our bodies and resulting in our bad skin.
We are taught that eating fruits and low-carb diets is ok, but when you really look at the ingredients, at the end of the day, it’s all processed or high in sugar and NOT designed to keep us healthy.
Adding in good fats to your diet, such as avocados and coconut oils help us shed the crap from our guts and livers. In a short period of time, we shed a few pounds, but the bigger result is more energy and clear skin.
This even goes for ALL skin conditions including acne, rosacea, melasma, eczema and psoriasis!
*** FYI I am NOT a nutritionist, nor do I have the qualifications to change your diet. I do plenty of research & find experts who are highly regarded in their fields, because I want to know what’s right, not just for myself, but to be able to share it with you too.
My goal is to inspire you to do your own research and find a solution that works for your skin & your health. There are plenty of so-called experts and not every one that I like will be good for you, which is why I suggest you do your own research and find a lifestyle that fits your needs and your life.
We all have skin issues that we want solved.
How bad do we want our skin to actually look clear?
How badly do you want to feel good?
How badly do you want to have more energy?
It’s actually not as hard as it sounds. There are tons of options, both for cooking at home and for eating out in your favorite restaurants. You just need to know what to order.
Skin problems and our diet
The American diet is the worst diet in the world. I’ve talked to so many clients who have traveled to Europe and/or Asia and they all say how healthy, lean & beautiful the women are in other parts of the world.
They eat cheese, breads and drink wine daily, but they stress less, walk or bike daily and their foods are not filled with the preservatives or bleached like our food is here.
When I hear these stories, it’s no wonder so many health conditions are on the rise in the US. Our foods are killing us and making our skin look terrible too.
Since our skin is an organ, don’t you think it’s time to take a look at WHY we break out?
Our bodies are trying to tell us something by showing up in our skin. If we don’t pay attention, we are going to develop severe illnesses very soon.
One thing I learned years ago from a nutritionist friend of mine is that even if we appear to be healthy, our bodies may be sick on the inside.
We could be developing diseases that one day appear out of the blue, or seem to appear out of nowhere.
Our poor food choices eventually will catch up to us.
Life is all about choices!
You can choose to be different and make healthier food choices, eat no more sugar, carbs or drink alcohol OR you could choose to take the same path as everyone else and risk poor health or illness a few years down the road.
Or end up suffering from bad skin due to your poor diet and/or lifestyle choices.
The choice is yours!
