I see it and hear it all the time from new clients who come to see me when their skin is so bad they just can’t take it anymore & just want relief.
“But I bought XYZ brand & use their 3-step, or my Dermatologist recommended it, or I use the whole acne line, why isn’t my skin getting better?”
It’s time I tell you the hard truth: you’re paying more money for the name, not the quality of ingredients.
It’s true!
We believe that because a brand is more money their products should be better for us.
Right?
You would think!
Unfortunately, manufacturers manipulate us into thinking that. They are smart and use their advertising dollars well because they built up a name that is known in every single househould.
But does that mean their products are good for our skin?
NO!
Over-The-Counter products are ALL manufacturered the same way. Many expensive brands are made with the less expensive ones. The manufacturing companies have industrial-size vats they mix ingredients in. This means they can manufacturer many different products at once. Some formulas vary slight, but most are pretty similar.
Because these companies use industrial-size vats, they have to mass-produce products, however, the quality of ingredients used isn’t great. Companies bottom line is the almighty dollar and to save their money wisely, they choose ingredients that are low-cost. This results in not-so-good results to your skin.
Another thing about this type of manufacturing; because such a high quantity is made at once, the products then have to be stored for years on a warehouse shelf. This requires the use of preservatives, which when used properly are good, however, for this quantity of products, heavy amounts are used and many are also low-cost and can harm the skin.
Parabens are a topic for another blog post, but actually used to be the best preservative we had on the market. The replacements for parabens are worse & make parabens look like a rock star!
Here’s the bottom line: whether you’re buying Clean & Clear, Neutrogena, Clinique or Clarins – ALL those products are basically the same ingredients!
Yep, I said that correctly.
When I look at the ingredients clients bring in, it’s no wonder so many people are suffering from skin problems.
Many acne lines are so drying that it makes your acne worse OR it thickens your skin because your skin is so stripped of oil & moisture that the skin has to thicken to protect itself.
Plus you’re still breaking out, worse than before.
To make things worse, these manufacturing companies are the ones spitting out “expert skin advice” to the masses, making us believe that what we are doing is working.
When I read articles online or in magazines, read blog posts or see instagram pics, I’m disgusted by the amount of false information told to the public.
Unfortunately, it’s so main-stream now that we believe it and trust those who are providing us with the information to be our skin experts.
What can you use?
Not to worry! There are plenty of skin care lines out there that aren’t harmful to your skin and will keep your acne under control and your skin hydrated and clear.
*** Note, for today’s blog, I’m using acne as an example, because it’s one of the most common skin problems clients come in to see me for.
I have been an esthetician for 15-years. I have tried many different lines & different products which has been fun and a great learning experience.
I’ve also continued to educate myself and keep my license current by doing classes & courses that better myself as an esthetician, biz owner and skin mentor.
Last November, I launched a new skin care line, called Nelly DeVuyst because I wanted to offer my clients something more.
One thing I learned from launching this new line, that is a French line & formulated in Canada; since they follow the European Union (EU), over 1500 ingredients are banned. This means that only high-quality ingredients and no harmful ingredients are used.
The transformations in my client’s and even my own skin over the past year has been amazing! I’m so grateful that I stumbled upon the Nelly line because it opened my eyes up to the fact that skin care can be simple, easy to use and doesn’t always have to break your bank.
When you follow a skin care line that is working for your skin, not only do you see & maintain skin results, but you start to save money because you’re not searching for that next product to help clear up your skin.
Plus, high-quality skin care lines use high-quality ingredients, meaning you use less product each time and end up saving money on your products!
Yes I did say that right.
It’s an investment at first, but isn’t your skin worth that investment?
Is what you’ve always been using working for your skin? If not, then it’s time to make a change and find a high-quality line that works & delivers results.
Skeptical about switching once again?
I totally get it!
There are so many people online, on social media and in magazines that are experts in skin. They aren’t licensed or trained. These people just love skin and like to make a living doing so.
They know what you know, they’ve just read up on it & became a self-made skin expert.
How can you trust someone who just has a passion for skin and no proper training or license?
I get it, I’m super passionate about the skin. Why do you think I’m always posting on social media & doing blog posts when I can?
I WANT to help people, as many people as I possibly can. But I can only inspire you to take a different approach to your skin.
I can’t change your mind, I can’t force you to buy my products and I can’t force you to stop following your favorite bloggers and social media skin girls.
All I can do is tell you the cold, hard truth and hope that today’s message sticks because I want to see you clear up your skin. I want to see you look and feel beautiful. Every single person in this world deserves to have great skin & every single person in this world deserves to FEEL beautiful on the inside and out.
If I can inspire you to make small changes and learn that what’s out there isn’t the right information, then I can sleep better tonight, knowing I helped change your life in a positive direction.
That’s all I can offer to you.
XO
Samantha
