LED uses light emitting diodes in either red or blue to treat certain conditions on the skin. Skin conditions such as aging, acne, dark spots or melasma from sun damage and skin redness can all be improved with LED treatments.
LED has been around for quite awhile and treatments have come a long way since I started doing treatments. We used to have to hold these wands & apply them to the skin in sections, which was really effective, but you had to constantly hold them on specific areas to treat the skin.
NOW estheticians have LED panels that can treat the entire face, neck & decollatege at once. This means better results for our clients!
What are the differences in lights?
Starting with Red LED lights
Red lights have a deeper penetration rate (think UV rays that penetrate into the skin) UVA are shorter wavelengths than UVB rays.
Red LED lights can penetrate to the Dermis (our second layer of the skin). This is important because it can stimulate collagen & elastin to strengthen the bonds that lose their effectiveness as we age.
Think of a rubber band that gets too stretched out, it doesn’t have the spring like it used to. That is exactly what happens to our collagen & elastin. Red LED can repair that and strengthen our collagen & elastin bonds to fight aging.
Red lights are healing rather than damaging like a UV ray, but they are able to get into the skin and treat the skin at the source of the problems.
This is amazing because products & serums can’t reach the depth that an LED light can, which means this treatment allows maximized penetration of your serums even after your treatment. This is how we are able to work together to achieve better results for your skin.
Red LED lights help even out skin tone & reduces the appearance of sun spots & melasma. It also helps to reduce visible broken blood vessels on the skin.
Next we move to Blue LED lights
Blue LED lights are shorter than red, which means it can only penetrate to the stratum corneum layer of the Epidermis (the top layer). In the stratum corneum layer, blue LED lights kill acne bacteria and calms inflammation in the pores.
Blue LED light fights Acne and inflammation in the skin.
We all have bacteria on our skin & in our pores, sometimes the bad bacteria can overgrow and take over the pore, resulting in acne breakouts.
Extracting your pimple isn’t the way to go about removing bacteria because done incorrectly, you can push the bacteria deeper in the pore.
This is where LED treatments can benefit your skin, because controlling the bacteria in the pores naturally reduces the inflammation. Over the course of treatments, your pimples will lessen and be less painful.
The result is clear skin!
What is an LED treatment?
If you haven’t tried LED, treatments work best twice weekly for 4 weeks. Each LED treatment includes a cleanse, exfoliation, serum & moisturizer in a 45-minute session.
LED can be added to your facial or acne treatment to boost the effectiveness and deliver immediate results. I love how my client’s skin glows after an LED facial because the light maximized the serum penetration rate.
Plus an LED facial is a great way to jump start your 8 session LED treatment plan.
