Chemical Peels: Fall is Peel Season
Chemical Peels: Your Fall Skincare Reset
Fall is the perfect time to renew your skin with a professional chemical peel. As summer fades, your skin is ready to shed its sun-damaged layers and reveal a brighter, smoother complexion, and chemical peels are the perfect way to shift your skin into a new season. In this guide, we’ll explore what chemical peels are, the benefits they offer, compare the differences with our specialty peels, and what you can do to maximize your results. Let’s get started!
What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is a professional skincare treatment that uses a blend of exfoliating acids to gently remove dead skin cells and reveal fresh, healthy skin underneath. Chemical peels use an acid solution applied to the skin that lowers the skin’s pH levels to exfoliate the top layers of the skin. These peels can create an uncomfortable sensation and slight burning while the peel is working. Afterwards, a neutralizing solution is applied to “stop the peel” process. Post-treatment, the skin may appear pink, feel dry or tight, and lightly flake for a few days, but these are all signs that new, radiant skin is emerging.
Is a Chemical Peel Good For Your Skin?
Absolutely! Peels are good for the skin, especially when done correctly and in a series of treatments. They stimulate cell turnover to give you a brighter, smoother, more youthful appearance. According to PubMed, “Chemical peeling, or chemical exfoliation, involves applying a chemical substance to the skin, intentionally causing controlled epidermal damage with or without affecting the dermis. This controlled damage prompts skin regeneration and remodeling, thereby improving overall skin appearance and texture.”
How Have Chemical Peels Evolved?
Modern chemical peels are not the harsh, stinging treatments they once were. Today’s formulations are a combination of gentle acids with peptides, growth factors, and antioxidants that rejuvenate the skin without causing excessive redness or irritation post-peel. At Skin Deep Esthetics, we use two different peels that are a blend, and our clients love them.
What is the BioRePeel?
Nicknamed the “No Downtime Peel,” the BioRePeel is an innovative treatment used across the esthetics and medical spa industries that gently exfoliates the top layer of the skin while stimulating collagen and elastin production. It works beneath the surface to renew the skin from within, perfect for those who want visible results without peeling or redness.
What are the Benefits?
The BioRePeel combines natural acids, enzymes, peptides, and vitamins to detoxify and renew the skin.
Benefits include softer skin texture, reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, fading of acne scars and dark spots, and minimizing pores. This peel is ideal for those looking to refresh dull or tired skin without downtime.
How is the BioRePeel different from Chemical Peels?
Unlike traditional water-based peels, the BioRePeel uses an oil-and-water formulation that creates a barrier on the skin’s surface from dehydration while allowing active ingredients to penetrate deeply. This means:
- Minimal to no burning or irritation
- No need for a neutralizer (BioRePeel self-neutralizes)
- Immediate post-peel glow with only slight pinkness
On the other hand, traditional peels are water-based, which lowers the skin’s pH and draws water from the skin. This dehydrates the skin and causes a burning sensation when you get a peel. They don’t stop “peeling” until they are neutralized, so your practitioner must carefully monitor your skin. Post-peel, your skin will be red or pink the day of the treatment, and then you will experience some flaking as the skin repairs itself. The BioRePeel balances the skin barrier while effectively resurfacing it, making it a favorite for sensitive skin types.
What is the Factor Five Peel?
The Factor Five Peel is another client favorite known for instant results and “no downtime peel”. It uses a two-step process enhanced with growth factors to stimulate collagen and support long-lasting anti-aging effects.
What are the Benefits?
The Factor Five Peel helps achieve:
- Reduced fine lines and softened wrinkles
- Minimized pores
- Brighter, more even skin tone
- Reduced acne scarring and sun damage
- Hydrated, youthful-looking skin
The Factor Five peel uses a blend of acids, peptides, kojic acid, and growth factors. Post-peel, the second step is a calming serum that contains soothing and hydrating ingredients, plus growth factors. The growth factors support cell rejuvenation while speeding up healing. After exfoliation, a calming serum rich in growth factors and hydrating ingredients is applied to soothe and accelerate healing. This makes the Factor Five Peel a true age-defying treatment.
How is the Factor Five Peel Different from Chemical Peels?
Unlike chemical peels, there is almost no redness after the peel, due to the second step, which is a calming solution applied after the peel is removed. This peel is also massaged into the skin to stimulate the circulation and lymph. Lastly, Factor Five Peel self-neutralizes, so no neutralizer is needed. This peel is best done in a series of 4-6 spaced every 7-10 days apart.
